CIIP was glad to be a Strategic Partner for ASK Health Asia’s 2024 APAC Health and Life Sciences Summit. The Summit was organised in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, together with other Strategic Partners including the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute, Saw Swee Hock School Of Public Health, and Duke-NUS Medical School Centre for Regulatory Excellence.

Held over two days, the Summit brought together 70 speakers from over 10 countries to discuss topics covering the entire healthcare value chain, including APAC regional market trends, innovation and regulatory collaborations, opportunities in health financing, and key areas for investment.

The Summit this year also focused on the intersection between climate and health as well. CIIP’s Akhil Khurana shared about CIIP’s latest research area of interest in strengthening health systems to mitigate the threat of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR is a growing threat in Asia, owing to limited healthcare infrastructure, unsustainable agricultural practices, and inadequate sanitation. By 2050, the region is expected to witness approximately 4.75 million annual AMR-related deaths; while AMR-related costs are projected to increase to around $700 billion, or 1% of the continental GDP.

In view of the diverse interventions needed to tackle the multi-layered issue of AMR, CIIP has partnered with the World Economic Forum’s Giving to Amplify Earth Action (GAEA) initiative and the Philanthropy Asia Alliance to put together a strategic paper that highlights key issues and potential opportunities for catalytic capital to play a role. We invite all interested stakeholders to join us in unlocking solutions for AMR, and to build a safer and healthier Asia.
